Washington: Senior White House aides, led by US Vice President J.D. Vance, have urged President Donald Trump to give diplomacy a chance before any potential military action against Iran. According to US media reports, President Trump is considering various options for striking Iran in response to the ongoing crackdown on protests there; however, the vice president and some senior officials believe that a diplomatic approach should be pursued before resorting to military force.
A US newspaper, citing officials, reported that President Trump has not yet made a final decision. Although he is currently inclined toward military action against Iran, his position could still change. Some US officials say the president may first order a limited strike, after which the possibility of negotiations with Iran could be explored.
Media reports also indicate that the White House had been reviewing an alleged offer from Iran to hold talks on its nuclear program. However, at the same time, President Trump appears to be seriously considering approving military action against Iran.
