A civilian was killed and three others including two police officers wounded when unidentified militants attacked a police post in Barang tehsil early Saturday.
Police officials and locals reported the assault occurred around 2 a.m. at the outpost in the hilly Kohi Sar area, about 22 kilometers from Khar, the district headquarters.
District police spokesperson Zar Khan told Dawn the fatality was Naseem Gul, a 60-year-old local resident. The injured included Constable Sul Khan, 35, Constable Saz Muhammad, 58, and 28-year-old school watchman Sahibzada.
All three were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, where their conditions remain stable.
Khan said the attackers used heavy and light weapons. Security forces and police quickly arrived for a clearance operation, reporting several militants killed.
The incident reflects Pakistan’s rising militancy in 2025. The Pak Institute for Peace Studies in Islamabad noted a 34% increase in terrorist attacks (699 total) and a 21% rise in terrorism-related deaths compared to 2024.
