Renowned Bengali actress and former Miss Kolkata Jyashree Kabir passed away on January 12 at age 73.
Bangladeshi media reports she died in a nursing home in Romford, Essex, UK, while under treatment, with news emerging two days later.
Born June 22, 1952, she gained fame winning Miss Kolkata in 1968, starred in over 40 Bengali films in Kolkata known for nuanced acting in both commercial and art cinema—earning more critical acclaim than mass popularity—later moved to Bangladesh, married (and divorced) filmmaker Alamgir Kabir, then lived semi-retired in London with her son.
