France has approved a bill banning social media use for children under 15 years old. After approval from the lower house, the bill still needs Senate approval. According to a news agency, the measure has been taken in view of rising online harassment and mental health risks.
Today, a bill banning social media use for children under 15 was presented in France’s National Assembly, proposing a ban on social media platforms for minors.
The bill also proposes extending the ban on smartphones in middle schools to high schools. It describes social media use as a cause of increasing mental health issues among young children.
French President Macron has previously called social media one of the causes of rising violence trends among youth and wants to impose a ban on social media use for minors in France similar to Australia.
