A recent interview with the Clueless star, alongside co-star Jack Black, revealed his worst audition experience. He shared with RTÉ Entertainment that his most memorable audition was sparked by a tale about Danny DeVito. He recalled that DeVito supposedly landed the Taxi role by walking in as Louie De Palma, leaping onto a table, tossing the script aside, and declaring, “Who wrote this?” He said, that moment made him think that was how you go about it.
Following that inspiration, he auditioned for a tough-guy part and decided to imitate that brash approach. He described pulling out an unlit cigarette, striking it against the carpet, and leaving. As he walked out, he thought he wouldn’t get the part.
He immediately phoned his agent after the audition, who asked, “What did you do?” The casting director had already contacted the agent, saying, “Get this psycho away from me!” He noted that the move clearly backfired for him.
The actor, now 56, and Jack Black are promoting their new film Anaconda, which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25.
