George and Amal Clooney, along with their children Ella and Alexander, have received French citizenship. The actor fired back at Donald Trump’s New Year’s Eve insults with a sharp political retort.
Just hours before 2025 ended, Trump used Truth Social to slam Clooney and his wife after reports surfaced about their new French citizenship. He called Clooney “not a movie star at all” but “an average guy who constantly whined about politics,” and tied France’s immigration rules to rising crime.
Trump’s comments followed Clooney once describing the president as a “goofball” pre-politics. But the Ocean’s Eleven star didn’t hold back.
In response, Clooney quipped in a statement: “I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.” The remark clearly alluded to the looming U.S. election.
The 64-year-old also blasted CBS and ABC in a Variety interview for settling Trump’s lawsuits, saying it eroded press freedom. “If CBS and ABC had fought those suits and said, ‘Go fuck yourself,’ we wouldn’t be in this mess as a country. That’s simply the truth.”
Clooney further criticized Bari Weiss, recently tapped to lead CBS News, questioning the network’s future under her watch.
