In the first all-European final at the world junior hockey championship since 2016, Sweden claimed its third title on Monday, January 5, 2026, by defeating Czechia.
Swedish forward Anton Frodell beamed, “It was time for gold, and we delivered. It’s incredible—we’re like one big family who loves each other and did everything right to win.”
Czechia’s coach Patrik Augusta noted his team’s fatigue following their semifinal victory over Canada, saying it drained them “not just physically, but mentally too.” He admitted, “Sweden was stronger from the start. We searched for a spark that only ignited in the final minutes—far too late.”
Sweden surged ahead with first-period goals from Casper Juulstovaara and Viktor Eklund. Sascha Boumedienne made it 3-0 early in the second. Czechia fought back through Adam Jiřiček and Matej Kubiesa, the latter scoring with 24 seconds remaining. Ivar Stenberg sealed the 4-2 win with an empty-net goal eight seconds later.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Canada’s Zayne Parekh set a national record for defenseman points with 13, highlighted by a goal and assist in one game.
