Heavy vehicles continued to wreak havoc in the city on Thursday, claiming the life of a female motorcyclist when a trailer struck her.
Karachi has seen a surge in traffic accidents in recent months, especially those involving large vehicles such as dump trucks and water tankers.
Quaidabad Station House Officer Mohammad Ali Shah told Dawn that a 10-wheeler trailer hit a 20-year-old woman on a motorcycle along the main Mehran Highway near MN Textile in Landhi. “She suffered fatal injuries and died at the spot,” Shah said. “The driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind, which police later impounded.”
The victim’s body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
In a separate incident, an Edhi Foundation spokesperson said a 60-year-old man died after a trailer truck hit him near Akhtar Colony signal in Defence Phase 1 on Thursday night.
The report added that since the start of the year, three people have died in accidents, with 70 others injured—including 10 children and 20 women.
On Saturday, authorities reported four deaths, including two brothers, in three separate Super Highway crashes. Just last week, a young motorist died and his passenger was hurt when a trailer truck collided with them near Bara P Gate on Mauripur Road.
