US and Canadian defense organization NORAD stated in a social media post that US warplanes will soon arrive at the US military base in Greenland.
According to NORAD, the Greenland government has also been informed of the planning in advance.
NORAD says there is coordination with the Danish government regarding the deployment of the new batch of US aircraft, and US forces have obtained the necessary diplomatic clearances.
It is clear that Greenland is actually an autonomous territory of Denmark. In 1951, the US and Denmark signed the Greenland Defense Agreement.
Under the agreement, the US committed to protecting Greenland from potential aggression. Meanwhile, the US and Canada signed the NORAD defense agreement in 1958 at the start of the Cold War. NORAD’s primary purpose is to provide timely alerts on ballistic missile launches.
