Australian head coach Andrew McDonald dumps all blame for T20 World Cup exit and defeat on players.
Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald said, “I’ve heard some people saying we don’t prioritize the T20 World Cup; we’ve been fully preparing for it over the past period. We won the World Cup in 2021 and haven’t succeeded since; expectations from the Australian cricket team are very high, which is correct.”
The Australian head coach further said, “Performance shouldn’t be linked to some players not being in our team; we need to look at the performances that disappointed us—we have to accept those performances.”
He stated that in the match against Zimbabwe, we should have scored more runs; we need improvement in all three departments, many players failed to perform together at the same time—it’s not the time to point fingers at everything yet.
The head coach said, “We’ll go back, review everything, and it will take some time; there are more tournaments before the next World Cup. Our players will play BBL and PSL; there are fewer T20I series, but we’ll prepare accordingly.”
It is clear that the Australian cricket team faced defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in the group stage of the T20 World Cup, and prior to the World Cup, they also suffered a clean sweep in the series against Pakistan.
