Mirza Shahzad Akbar, former special assistant to ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, says his self-exile home in the UK suffered a “deliberate and targeted criminal attack meant to cause serious harm.”
The claim comes days after Akbar revealed he broke his nose and suffered facial injuries in a home assault just over a week ago.
In a Thursday X statement, Akbar described the December 5 incident at his Cambridgeshire, England residence: assailants “damaged the property and tried to start a fire, endangering lives.” He called it the second attack in a week on him, his family, and home—all linked by “clear malicious intent.”
On December 24, he added, an unknown attacker in “construction or waste-collection gear” asked, “Are you Shahzad Akbar?” before striking, causing bruises and a broken nose.
UK police are probing both as targeted assaults. Akbar urged authorities to use “all powers and resources” to protect political dissidents and those fleeing persecution, upholding the UK’s role as a safe haven.
The ex-accountability czar, who lives in exile, labeled the December 24 assault “cowardly” and vowed it won’t silence him. “No residence attack will intimidate or stop me from exposing corruption, human rights abuses, and democratic erosion in Pakistan.”
This is Akbar’s third reported incident: On November 3, a masked figure threw acid at his Hertfordshire home. Though he’s sued alleging Pakistani state involvement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office dismissed the accusations as “preposterous.”
