A group of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) figures, now organized as the National Dialogue Committee (NDC) to foster political reconciliation, has written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requesting parole for senior PTI leaders imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat jail.
The letter, penned by Mahmood Maulvi, Imran Ismail, and Fawad Hussain Chaudhry, argues that freeing these leaders is essential for “meaningful leadership and credibility in any dialogue process.” The NDC praised the PM’s fresh invitation for opposition talks—especially with PTI—as a “golden opportunity” to address mounting political, economic, and institutional crises.
Strikingly, the letter skips mention of PTI founder Imran Khan, emphasizing instead the need for senior leaders beyond Adiala jail to drive discussions. It specifically calls for parole of high-profile detainees like Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, and former senator Ejaz Chaudhry.
The group insists talks require initial confidence-building steps, with these releases fostering trust and a positive atmosphere among stakeholders. The NDC also urged all parties to prioritize a Charter of Democracy and Charter of Economy over partisan divides for lasting stability and growth.
Maulvi, Ismail, and Chaudhry established the NDC to bridge PTI and the government through dialogue.
