A special Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) court on Saturday sentenced PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each in the Toshakhana-2 case, involving the purchase of a high-value Bulgari jewelry set at a deeply discounted price.
Special Judge Shahrud Arshad delivered the verdict during a hearing at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran Khan is incarcerated. The former premier’s sentence combines 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 7 years under Section 52 (criminal misconduct by public servants) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bushra Bibi received identical terms under the same provisions.
Both were also fined Rs16.4 million, with additional jail time if unpaid.
The court’s order, reviewed by Dawn, stated: “In imposing these sentences, the court considered Imran Khan’s advanced age and Bushra Bibi’s gender, adopting a relatively lenient stance on punishment.”
It added that the convicts benefit from Section 382-B of the Criminal Procedure Code, accounting for prior detention in sentencing.
Imran and Bushra’s lawyers announced plans to challenge the ruling in the high court. They were formally charged in the case last December.
