Shah Rukh Khan, owner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), drew sharp criticism after the team signed Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for IPL 2026.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed KKR to drop Mustafizur from the squad due to “recent developments,” secretary Devajit Saikia announced. KKR may seek a replacement with BCCI approval.
Political and Religious Condemnation
Indian media reported the December auction signing for INR 92 million sparked outrage over “national sentiments.” Hindu leader Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya branded Khan a “traitor,” while Devkinandan Thakur demanded the funds go to Hindu victims’ families in Bangladesh.
Shiv Sena (UBT) labeled Bangladeshis “enemies” and urged Indian players instead. Leader Sanjay Nirupam called for government action, and BJP’s Sangeet Som warned Mustafizur couldn’t safely enter India. Maharashtra’s Pyare Khan sought a player ban to protect minorities.
