ICC T20 World Cup: Australia’s former captains Michael Clarke and Aaron Finch express surprise over fast bowler Haris Rauf not being selected in the Pakistani squad.
During a program, Clarke and Finch were asked about not including Haris Rauf in the team despite his stellar performance in the BBL, to which Aaron Finch said that he was quite surprised by Haris Rauf’s exclusion from the squad.
“There’s a difference between criticizing a player and being rude to a player; some of our people cross the line”: Haris Rauf
Expressing his thoughts, Aaron Finch said that Haris Rauf brings an X-factor to the team; he just tends to be a bit expensive at times.
He stated that the most important thing is to have a genuine bowler who can take wickets in all three phases of the game, and in my view, taking wickets is the most crucial in T20 cricket, especially on flat pitches.
On the other hand, Michael Clarke said that he too was surprised by Haris Rauf’s non-selection, although it is true that playing in Australia is different from playing in Sri Lanka and India.
Continuing his point, Michael Clarke said that the squad has to be formed according to the conditions where you have to play, and players are selected according to their roles.
He added that the role Haris Rauf had in the BBL doesn’t seem to be his role here, and in my opinion, a player’s form is also very important.
Michael Clarke says that when you select a squad for the World Cup, you try to ensure that the players come into the tournament with good cricket and good form.
