Karachi: MQM Pakistan leader and Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal stated that genocide is occurring under the 18th Amendment, urging the federation to declare Karachi a federal territory under Article 148.
Press Conference Remarks
Addressing a press conference at MQM’s Bahadurabad office, Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal said this city was not like this before; how much blood must be shed and how many tragedies endured—this is the genocide of the city’s residents, a matter of genocide. He emphasized that human lives hold no value, noting MQM as one of the larger parties aware of its responsibilities.
Demand from the State
He urged not to focus on tone but on the content: the state must declare Karachi a federal part. He challenged critics, saying if speaking for the city is now fashion, then answer for Baldia Factory—why not hang us after 18 years, why no punishment? Did MQM chant “us here, you there” in East Pakistan? Did MQM burn shops, vehicles, and factories on Benazir’s martyrdom on December 27? Did MQM kill Murtaza Bhutto? Did MQM shelter Benazir’s killers? Did MQM do jaloos and gherao on her martyrdom? He told PPP there are more such allegations you level against us.
RAW Weapons and City Violence
Mustafa Kamal said MQM cooperated with the state to collect and hand over RAW’s weapons; the state failed for 30 years to end RAW’s dominance, but now MQM has filled trucks with RAW weapons from this city for the state. He questioned to whom this city has been handed over—one day 100 people died; this is open democratic terrorism. How many more burn to death, how many more children fall into gutters and die—when will justice come? What consolation for people? When complaining to Sindh government, the reply is answer for Baldia fire, extortion— is that justification? MQM implemented quota system in Sindh, leading to genocide.
Criticism of Sindh Government
After 18 years of your rule, you await such tragedies; fires happened even in MQM mayors’ time—like Bolton Market fire everyone remembers. He appealed to federation and state institutions: how many more sacrifices from this city? Even the Prime Minister, despite wanting to, can’t do anything for the city because PPP gets upset; PPP is needed to run the government, and we are dying. Tell us a timeline—how many more must die in your city for us to be patient? The world goes to the moon, children die falling into gutters in Karachi.
Final Demand
Mustafa Kamal concluded: Do whatever you want, no one asks them; to the state, enough is enough—they won’t change. Make Karachi a federal territory, bring it under federation; Karachi can no longer endure such administration. Declare it part of the capital under Articles 148 and 149, declare it financial capital and take under federation. End the 18th Amendment drama—genocide happens through it; it has become a cancer of the country, abolish it immediately.
