The Financial Times has praised Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, as an “expert in multilateral foreign policy” and the “most effective strategic leader” amid a turbulent global order challenging middle powers.
The British journal highlighted how shifting geopolitics has created complexities for mid-tier nations, positioning Munir as one of the top “multi-aligners.” It noted his success in syncing with US President Donald Trump’s informal approach, making him a prime example of savvy middle-power strategy.
Pakistan’s leadership, under Munir, has adeptly balanced ties with Washington, Beijing, Riyadh, and Tehran, unlocking fresh diplomatic avenues in a fast-evolving landscape. The FT credited his timely rapport and adaptable style with Trump as key to these gains—leaving India frustrated.
The report contrasted this with India’s struggles, saying New Delhi faltered in adapting to global shifts and Trump’s demeanor, hampering its middle-power ambitions.
