Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb acknowledged that some firms are indeed leaving the country.
Speaking at the Pakistan Policy Dialogue, he admitted high taxes and energy costs pose real challenges, stressing the need to rationalize duties, lower business costs, and implement tariff reforms—reducing duties on raw materials for the first time to boost exports and industrial output.
Aurangzeb highlighted shifting tax policy from FBR to Finance Division, record remittances of $38 billion last year (expecting $41 billion this year), and bringing non-banking individuals into formal finance, with all government payments digitized by June for an export-led economy akin to East Asia’s growth model.
