Speculation in Lahore has swirled around another high-profile wedding, with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s son, Junaid Safdar—grandson of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif—set to marry Shanzay, granddaughter of Sheikh Rohale Asghar, a Nawaz Sharif ally and ex-MNA.
Asghar confirmed the news on Friday in an interview with journalist Shazia Zeeshan, sharing details on the engagement. He explained that Shanzay and Junaid’s sister Mahnoor are close friends who often visit each other’s homes. Shanzay’s frequent meetings with Maryam Nawaz likely prompted the proposal through Shanzay’s father.
“When my son told me, I saw it as a divine blessing for our daughter to join such a respected family and urged him to move forward,” Asghar said.
After a meeting with Maryam, Nawaz Sharif personally invited Asghar’s family to Jati Umra, where they finalized dates: January 16, 17, and 18. The Sharif family will host a combined mehndi and valima at Jati Umra; the bride’s side will hold a reception at Lake City Golf and Country Club in Lahore.
Asghar, beaming, noted Shanzay is his third grandchild marrying within three months and expects a grand affair.
For Junaid, it’s his second marriage. He wed Ayesha Saif Khan—daughter of former NAB chairman Saifur Rehman—in 2021 with a lavish London nikah and week-long festivities across Lahore and Islamabad. They divorced in 2023, with Junaid announcing it on Instagram in October.
