The Sindh government named Azad Khan as the new Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police for Karachi amid a sweeping police reshuffle.
Khan, previously AIG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), replaces Javed Alam Odho, who took over as Sindh IGP Thursday.
A Thursday notification shifted Additional IG Zulfiqar Larik from Special Branch to CTD. Sharjeel Kharral became AIG Operations Sindh, with Iqbal Dara holding additional charge there. Parvaiz Chandio was posted as DIG Establishment, Faisal Abdullah Chachar as DIG Mirpurkhas, and DIG Nasir Aftab got additional duties in Sukkur.
The changes followed Odho’s appointment as provincial police chief. On Wednesday, CM Syed Murad Ali Shah met the new IGP, offering congratulations and directives.
Murad prioritized curbing Karachi street crime—”it erodes public trust and safety”—and maintaining law and order province-wide. He ordered unrelenting operations against katcha area criminals.
