Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has stated that neither the Sindh government nor the Pakistan People’s Party had any role in the construction or approval of Gul Plaza. In his statement, Sharjeel Memon said that approval for the building was granted in 1983 during the tenure of Mayor Abdul Sattar Afghani, while the lease was renewed in 1991 during the tenure of Mayor Dr. Farooq Sattar. He added that all irregularities were regularized in 2003, when Naimatullah Khan was the mayor. All decisions were made by local bodies before the 18th Amendment; giving the matter a political color is tantamount to distorting facts. It is worth noting that 71 bodies and human remains have been recovered from the Gul Plaza tragedy in Karachi so far. Police Surgeon Karachi Dr. Samia Tariq said that identification of 16 individuals has been completed, and the DNA process is complicated due to the bodies being burned. According to DC South Javed Nabi Khoso, Gul Plaza has been 90% cleared. 10 to 11 people are missing, search operations continue, and 4 DVRs have been recovered from the debris, which could provide important evidence in determining the causes of the tragedy.
