Lahore: The Walled City Authority has declared more than 300 buildings in inner Lahore unsafe.
The Walled City Authority submitted a report to the Lahore High Court in response to a petition against allowing kite-flying. The report stated that a survey of dangerous and dilapidated buildings in inner Lahore had been completed ahead of the Basant festival.
According to the report, out of 346 deteriorating buildings, 183 have been declared beyond repair, while 92 extremely unsafe buildings have already been vacated.
It further stated that 254 dangerous buildings are still occupied despite the risk. Among these, 103 have been deemed beyond repair and 151 are considered repairable. Of the vacated ones, 80 have been categorized as fit for demolition, while 12 can still be repaired.
The report also noted that the rooftops of these unsafe buildings are unfit for Basant-related activities, for which the Walled City Authority is putting up warning notices and awareness banners.
