Pakistan has urged the UN Security Council to reject any rushed reimposition of sanctions on Iran through the JCPOA snapback mechanism, advocating instead for renewed diplomacy to revive the nuclear deal’s spirit. Acting Permanent Representative Usman Jadoon emphasized that all issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear program should be resolved through dialogue, allowing more time for diplomatic success while preserving the JCPOA framework until a successor is established. He expressed regret over deepening divisions, unilateral force, UN Charter violations, and disputes over the snapback, insisting that coercive measures only widen mistrust, harm ordinary people through trade disruptions and economic setbacks, and undermine regional connectivity. Jadoon highlighted the JCPOA’s value as a foundation rooted in international law and mutual respect, calling for compromise to restore damaged trust, alongside impartial IAEA verification, and constructive efforts to foster a solution-oriented approach without alternatives to ongoing talks.
