Pakistan praised Saudi Arabia and the UAE on Friday for their Yemen initiatives, noting these reflect a shared commitment to regional peace.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi reaffirmed Islamabad’s support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, urging dialogue and diplomacy to resolve tensions.
Context of Regional Tensions
The statement followed a Saudi-led coalition airstrike on Mukalla port, targeting foreign military aid to southern separatists. Both nations backed the UAE’s force withdrawal after Yemen’s presidential council demanded their exit within 24 hours—UAE troops had joined the anti-Houthi coalition since 2015.
Andrabi commended the “wisdom and foresight” of Saudi and Emirati leaders, with Pakistan ready to foster brotherhood and unity for lasting stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently discussed this with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stressing Muslim Ummah coordination amid regional challenges.
