Punjab government has decided to ban petrol and diesel vehicle purchases in government departments to promote eco-friendly transport.
Chief Secretary Punjab stated that only electric or hybrid vehicles will be procured henceforth, exempting field duty vehicles. New NOC-holding petrol pumps (170 across the province) must install mandatory EV charging stations.
A new Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 will soon be introduced, prioritizing green energy; no petrol pump will operate without EV charging units.
