A senior Senate delegation, led by Deputy Chairman Senator Syedaal Khan, will visit the US from January 20-25, 2026, the Senate Secretariat announced Tuesday.
This follows a 2025 thaw in Pakistan-US ties, marked by high-level talks and regional shifts. The Secretariat hailed it as a “historic milestone” launching a “new institutional chapter” in parliamentary relations, backed by the Pakistan Policy Institute USA and debuting the US-Pakistan Inter-Parliamentary Group.
“This marks a triumph in strategic parliamentary diplomacy,” the statement noted, underscoring mutual democratic goals via direct legislative links—at a pivotal time for South Asia and the Middle East.
Key Aims
- Forge a permanent US Congress-Senate dialogue mechanism.
- Swap legislative best practices, boost oversight, and expand beyond executive diplomacy.
- Engage Pakistani-Americans on regional/global views; foster science, culture, policy ties.
In 77 years of ties, no Pakistani parliamentarians have formally engaged at the US Congress’s Rayburn House Office Building.
Agenda highlights: National Press Club presser in DC; New Jersey community/policy events. It sets up ongoing exchanges and enduring partnership rooted in respect and strategy.
Last April, a US delegation—Congressmen Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, Jonathan Jackson—called their Pakistan visit “highly successful,” meeting seniors like Field Marshal Asim Munir.
