Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori stated that the disappearance of more than 70 people is tragic, and no one wants fires to occur or businesses to be destroyed. Speaking to the media at Gul Plaza, he said we need to identify the causes of the fire. We will stand by until the damages are compensated.
The Sindh Governor added that he will discuss with the Sindh and federal governments to ensure compensation for the affected individuals. It may be noted that the fire at Karachi’s Gul Plaza was fully extinguished after 33 hours, with 4 more bodies recovered from the charred building, bringing the death toll to 14, while 22 injured are under treatment.
According to the Chief Fire Officer, cooling operations at the plaza are ongoing, windows are being cut with cutters, and walls are being demolished with hammers. On Sunday night, firefighters successfully entered the building during the rescue operation due to the possibility of someone trapped on the third floor of the plaza.
