The Islamabad High Court has been presented with the PTA’s report regarding the request to suspend PTI founder Imran Khan’s X account. According to the report, the government has been attempting to get Imran Khan’s X account suspended for the past 3.5 years.
Timeline of Requests
On August 21, 2022, the PTA wrote to X to suspend Imran Khan’s account. On April 18, 2024, another request was made citing convictions in the Toshakhana, cipher, and iddat cases.
The report states that on November 27, 2025, X was asked to block 47 tweets from Imran Khan; over 3.5 years, PTA sent 3 letters, but X rejected the requests except blocking one tweet from the 47.
PTA’s Observations
PTA advised social media companies to register with authorities in Pakistan, but they neither registered nor appointed a focal person. The report adds that social media companies registered in their home countries do not consider themselves bound by other nations’ laws and handle complaints from other countries according to their own regulations.
